Interview Set Up With Prospect Student
How do I Communicate with students who contact me?
- Prepare guides to help in handling incoming calls/emails from students and another for communicating during the first lesson.
What should I talk about when students call?
- Be ready to discuss your schedule, prices, schedule and teaching methods. The better versed you are in these things is highly related to your success at getting the student from merely contacting you to having them appear for a first lesson. Also, make sure these the things you say on the phone agree with the displayed on your social media / website.
What do I need to start?
- To stay organized and keep things smoothly I recommend: a schedule book; presentable teaching space; having a variety of teaching materials; file folders for each students / class you’ll teach; having generic “first lessons” prepared for a few different levels of students becoming persuasive and friendly on the phone knowing how to explain to prospect student/s.

- Would you like to try a lesson?
- I am available to teach from 8AM to 9PM.
- “OK. See you then!”
- Help – During the First Lesson
- During the first lesson, there are things you may want to say in certain terms in order to reassure the student of your teaching ability and to fully explain things. Below is a list of potentially helpful phrases for the first time with a new student.
- Settling In: Greetings and Exchange of niceties (Free talk on weekend activities, weather, news)
- During the Lesson: Try to say that again.
- Stating Your Protocol: You can email / call me anytime. Same day cancellation is not refunded.
- Ending the Lesson: We’ll stop the lesson here. When would you like to study again? See you next time.
You’ll probably want to end the conversation at some point; it becomes a mini-lesson itself.
Phone Tips:
- Be friendly – tone of voice tells a lot.
- If you answer the phone with a “hello” you may notice some confusion or hesitation in the caller’s voice as they may be waiting for a greeting. If you sense this, it’s often helpful to say something like, “Are you calling about _____ lessons? This usually ends the student’s fumbling for words.
- Don’t be pushy – try to be a teacher more than a salesperson (you’ll get more students!)
