1. Bot Fields vs Custom Fields

Bot Fields

Bot Fields allow you to store your bot data and set values depending on your contact’s actions. They look like Custom User Fields but can store values that are related to your bot: texts, numbers, and formulas, date, and time.

Source: Manychat Support – Bot Fields

Bot Fields deal with data and values only accessible to you and your bot and therefore can only be changed by you or your bot.

Custom Fields

The value or data that Custom Fields hold, on the other hand, is directly related to what the customer/contact inputs.

Custom Fields or Custom User Fields are much more flexible in their use. They allow you to store data and values inputted by your contacts via the User Input Tool.

They allow you to utilize your contacts’ inputted data in ManyChat’s various other functions such as Conditions, Actions, and Formulas.

For more information visit: Manychat Support – User Input and Custom Fields

You will be able to visualize this further during the demo as this will be shown and explained further during the demo.

2. Tags

When do you use a tag?  It is a one-time addition to a user’s profile that cannot be changed. It is an action they took that happened that cannot be changed. For example, where did your audience opted-in?

3. Flow Builder Capabilities

Flow Builder is a visual editor of all messages, actions, and transitions between them. It gives you a bird’s-eye view of the whole interaction without having to switch between single messages.

Starting Step, this is where the flow will begin. What will trigger this flow to be sent to a user.

Trigger

A trigger is what prompts the Starting Step in any flow. It may be prompted by a message from your contact, a Start Flow step from another flow, or the many Growth Tools and Widgets available on Manychat.

From there this will be sent to a message node. Under content type, you will see different content tags. I mentioned these allowable tags in the Facebook policies session. By now you know how to use each of the tags to prevent your bot doesn’t get banned. It isn’t activated yet so let’s do it now.

Send Message

Send Message is a step in the Flow Builder that allows you to send a customized message directly to your contact through Facebook Messenger.

Note that there is a 2000 character limit in each Message.

Different Block Types can add to your message beyond just text.

Send Email, similar to Send Message, is a step that allows you to send emails directly to your contacts or the administrators of your chatbot.

Send SMS

Send SMS is identical in function to Send Email except that it sends an SMS message directly to a contact or to an administrator.

Start Flow

Start flow is the step in the Flow Builder that links your current flow to another flow.

Actions

Actions are considered one of the most powerful tools available in ManyChat. They allow the bot to perform various tasks like sending notifications to administrators, setting Custom Fields and their values, and much more.

Conditions

Conditions decide where to lead your contact within the flow depending on specific set requirements.

Smart Delay

Smart delay adds a delay timer to your messages. Once the specified time runs out, your message will be sent. You may set this timer to delay sending by a few seconds up to 365 days.

Randomizer

A randomizer is a tool that splits contacts into different groups, each with varying percentages.

Comment

A comment is a tool for flow builders. It allows them to send comments on different flows or set reminders. Comments are only visible within the Flow Builder.

4. Flow Actions

The Action Button is one of the most important and possibly one of the most versatile buttons in the Flow Builder. Getting to know the different actions provided by the Action Button is a key step in creating your bot.

Add Tag and Remove Tag

These actions allow you to add or remove tags from contacts. This allows you to divide your contacts according to their preferences or how they interact with your bot.

Log Conversion Event

Log Conversion Event is a Pro tool that allows you to keep track of the key actions and interactions your contacts have had with your bot.

Subscribe to Sequence and Unsubscribe to Sequence

These Actions allow you to Subscribe or Unsubscribe to different Sequences in your bot respectively. A Sequence is a message chain that you may subscribe a contact to. You will learn more about Sequence in the next course.

Mark Conversation as Open and Mark Conversation as Done

These Actions allow you to mark a conversation in the Live Chat section as Open or Done respectively.

Assign Conversation to an Admin

This Action allows you to assign a Live Chat conversation to an admin on your team.

Notify Admins

Notify Admins is a Pro tool that triggers a notification via SMS or Email when a contact has selected an option or made a request that may require personal assistance.

Set Custom Field and Clear Contact Custom Field

This Action allows the bot to alter, add to, subtract from, or remove the data and/or values within Custom Fields.

Subscribe to Bot and Unsubscribe to Bot

These Actions subscribe or unsubscribe the contact to the bot respectively.

Set SMS Opt-In and Set Email Opt-In

These Actions are Pro tools that give your contacts the option to allow you to send SMS or Email to them until they retract this consent.

Set SMS Opt-Out and Set Email Opt-out

These Actions are Pro Tools that let you know when a contact does not want to receive SMS or Emails from you anymore.

Change Menu

This Action is a Pro tool that allows you to switch to a different menu.
